The name “Lab-grown” covers many other terms related to diamonds including “Man-made,” “Cultured,” “Synthetic,” “Cultivated”, etc. A lab-grown diamond is made through a controlled process, whereas a mined diamond is produced by geological processes or an imitation/fake diamond that is made of non-carbon material that looks alike to a real diamond.

Lab grown diamonds are actual diamonds consisting actual carbon atoms. They contribute all the eccentric attributes of natural diamonds - physical and chemical properties, but most importantly the same crystalline allure of a natural diamond.

It takes around 15 days in manufacturing a 1-carat lab-grown a diamond. However, a 3-carat diamond will take the time duration of approx. a month. In case the procedure is fastened the diamonds are expected to develop cracks with unclear cuts. In other words, there is a time limit for growing a diamond, which if disturbed, can hamper the quality of the diamond. It takes about 7-10 days for the stone to be cut and polished into a flawless diamond.

Cubic zirconia is considered to be much weaker in terms of endurance and shine than the original diamonds. They come with a completely different patterning and cut. Any experienced jeweller can easily spot a difference between a cubic zirconia and a diamond.

Man-made diamonds can only be differentiated from earth mined diamonds using specialized equipment that can detect the minor differences in trace elements and crystal growth. Using a jewellery loupe, synthetic gemstones are almost intractable to distinguish from mined diamonds. Synthetic diamonds may demonstrate unalike trace matters than Earth Mined diamonds.
